This quilt pattern is fashioned after a children's book that Sharon Word wrote titled The Word is Alphabet.  The quilt showcases the alphabet that was drawn by her kindergarten students. 

The pattern contains instructions for making the quilt, plus the 26 designs for the alphabet blocks.  That leaves 4 blocks to customize as you wish. 

Use your favorite method to transfer the designs to fabric:

• Tracing
• Printing on your own fabric using Ink Jet Fabric Sheets
• Purchase blocks printed on fabric in black and white, ready to be embellished
  
• Purchase the blocks printed on fabric in color 
  

This is a great interactive quilt.  A child can color a black and white block with fabric markers or fabric crayons.  This will give a child an active part in quilt making, not to mention having an heirloom thereafter. 

The quilt is also an awesome learning aid to hang in a child's room.  Parents, teachers and children can all enjoy this playful depiction of the alphabet.
