Carolyn Startup

Carolyn Startup is a long time quilter who is currently teaching and designing quilts.  She was taught to quilt by her mother, who was taught by Carolyn’s great grandmother.  You could say she is a fourth generation quilter!

After college and a stint in Corporate America, she chose to retire and take up quilting full time.  For the past eleven years, Carolyn has worked at the beloved Black Cat Quilts in San Francisco, where she has taught, helped customers with fabric selection, made store samples, introduced students and customers to new quilting notions and techniques and helped with inventory selection.  With the closing of Black Cat Quilts at the end of July 2008, Carolyn is going to continue to teach quilting at locations throughout the San Francisco Bay area, and design new quilt patterns.

Carolyn enjoys attending quilt classes whenever she can and loves to pass on any new tips and techniques to her students.  You can find out where she is teaching by checking out the teaching schedule on her website

I have just completed the quilt pattern - Contra Dance. I wanted to tell you how much I enjoyed making this quilt and that the instructions were clear enough even for a beginner like me. I intend to purchase more of your patterns and know that I will enjoy them just as much.  Thanks for the designs that look like an expert did them but are for 'newbies' like me.
