Eddy & Eddy Designs
I began quilting in the late ‘70’s with baby quilts and buntings and
even a machine appliquéd wall hanging or two. But then came an almost
12 year break for children, a career in bio-research and life on a
small farm.
My sister Marjorie re-introduced me to the delights of creative
quilting. Not only did she show me the radical new cutting system: the
rotary cutter/ruler/mat-but ALSO took me to a real quilt shop! An
“ah-ha!” moment! Wow! Fabrics had been evolving-what had I missed?
Friends and I began to gather at lunch hour to talk-talk-talk all
things quilts. We exchanged squares of Christmas fabric for a scrappy
star quilt. Another “ah-ha!” moment! Seven quilts-same fabrics, same
pattern, each completely individual. We were hooked. All of us remain
avid quilters and still gather for road trips to shows and classes.
Since retiring, I’ve found a niche at the Carriage Quilt Shoppe in East
Aurora, NY. Owners Linda and Sue have encouraged me to teach and put
my ideas into patterns. Along with teaching techniques, I urge my
students not to get stuck ’copying’ quilts they admire, but rather to
“make it your own!” I hope to instill confidence for them to use
learned skills to personalize their creation-that’s when the fun begins!
“Eddy & Eddy Designs” is a tribute to my husband, daughter and son
who all cheerfully lend their talents and critiques to new projects.
And-of course- to Oscar the Cat, who appears in the my logo and handles
all supervisory duties.
