Considerations | Optional Services
By bringing many small designers under one roof, we can offer a wide selection (currently over 300 from over 65 designers) to distributors, shops, and retail customers. We sell our patterns to 18 distributors and catalog companies across the United States (list available upon request). We also have distributors in Canada, Australia, and New Zealand. We have sales representatives covering most of the United States as well. We send out over 5,000 patterns per month.
We offer our designers many additional design opportunities throughout the year as we work with many fabric and other companies to create designs to compliment their product lines. Most of these companies provide free designer samples.
We pay our designers royalties when we sell the patterns but the designer retains the copyright.
A few things to consider
- What program(s) are your designs in? We use primarily Microsoft Publisher and Adobe InDesign but we can also use Microsoft Word files.
- No color inside patterns due to cost please. Use gray-scale. Most times color images print just fine as gray-scale.
- The largest sheets we can print are 11" x 17" and only for large appliqué patterns. Customers can tape sheets together if necessary. Everything else should be on 8 1/2" x 11" paper.
- We price most new patterns at $9.00 retail.
- We work with designers in the U.S. only at this time.
The first step is for you to email us pictures or a link to your website so that we can see your patterns and provide feedback. You can contact our publishing department at info@quiltwoman.com. If we are interested, we will ask for one or two patterns to look at for quality. If we think your patterns would be a good fit for our company, we will email you a contract which should answer most of your questions.
Optional Services for DesignersIf the thought of doing the whole design process on your own seems a little daunting, we are here to help. QuiltWoman.com is offering the following additional services to our designers due to many requests for assistance. These services can help us together achieve the best quality patterns as efficiently and quickly as possible. This can translate to increased royalties for you. Please take advantage of any and all of these services as needed for any of your patterns that we have accepted.
To take advantage of these services, send an email to info@quiltwoman.com stating what services you desire, the pattern(s) you need services for, and how you would prefer to prepay for the services. You may pay by credit card over the phone, or mail a check. If royalties are owed to you, we may be able to deduct the fees from your royalty check.
Photography
- Flat fee per piece of any size.
- Designer pays shipping to send the item to QuiltWoman.com and return shipping for the same amount is to be added to payment.
- We have studio lighting, professional equipment, experienced photographers, and a dedicated area suitable to photograph large and small projects.
- Photos will be emailed to you for approval before using them on your pattern cover.
Editing and Proofreading
- Proofreading for grammar, punctuation, sentence structure, consistency, and clarity.
- Checking computations to make sure the math works out and that no steps are missing, etc.
- Editing is done by staff with excellent English skills and an intermediate level or higher of quilting skills. Changes can be either necessary or suggested, depending upon how the change impacts the pattern.
- The designer will be notified of all changes that are necessary to make the pattern correct.
- Suggested changes will be sent to the designer for approval before changes are made.
Testing
- Reasonable fee charged per design (email photo to info@quiltwoman.com for a quote).
- A skilled quilter will make the project from start to finish following only your pattern with no assistance. If she/he gets completely stuck and is not able to continue, we will contact the designer for clarification.
- While making the project, the quilter will make any necessary corrections to yardage, measurements, missing steps, and make suggestions for anything else that she/he believes would make the pattern more user friendly.
- Necessary corrections will be made and the designer will be notified. Suggested changes will be sent to the designer for approval before changing.
- Supplies to create the project will be supplied by QuiltWoman.com and the sample will be the property of QuiltWoman.com. We will use the sample for store display and our trunk show program. We may also use it for an additional photo on your back pattern cover showing an optional color/fabric choice providing there is room on the pattern cover.
If you can think of any other services you’d like to see us provide, let us know…we’re listening!

I have just completed the quilt pattern - Contra Dance. I wanted to tell you how much I enjoyed making this quilt and that the instructions were clear enough even for a beginner like me. I intend to purchase more of your patterns and know that I will enjoy them just as much. Thanks for the designs that look like an expert did them but are for 'newbies' like me.
