I think I inherited the love of sewing from my grandmother. She was an accomplished dressmaker and quilter. I remember going to her house to be measured as a small child. Peeking in her sewing room seeing bolts of beautiful wool fabrics waiting to be cut. My mother and aunts encouraged my love of garment sewing. I can’t remember a time when I wasn’t sewing, cross stitching, embroidering, beading or crafting a project. I learned to crochet from my mother and my passion for yarn was added to the mix. In 1980 -2000. I started a job that fed my passion in a retail store that sold yarn, needlework, crafts, fabric and much more. After retiring from the Telecommunications industry in 2010, I had time to play with all my fabric, bead and yarn collections. A trend was re-emerging in 2020 with quilted garments, a local fiber arts fair piqued my curiosity, and I decided to enter. So, I made 10 quilted sweatshirt jackets to enter. The show was delayed due to Covid  restrictions, so I made 10 more. I won 3 ribbons in this juried Fiber arts Fair, and I was hooked. I was asked to teach classes with my Quilted Sweatshirt Jackets and Aprons, so my pattern company was born. J. Minnis Design Studio. It has evolved into Quilted Christmas Ornaments and Quilted Tote Bags. Working with Charm Packs and Panels is my passion. I love to see what I can create with just one charm pack and a little bit of fabric and a lot of imagination. Pre-made quilt panels are just plain fun to play with for jackets, aprons and Quilty crafting. My wish for you as stitchers, quilters and makers is to always keep learning, playing and trying new things!
Many Blessings,
J. Minnis
