Designer Bio UCQ - Upper Canada Quiltworks - Christine Baker

In 2004, designers and friends Christine Baker (Fairfield Road Designs) and Nellie Holmes (originellie’s) formed a joint company, Upper Canada Quiltworks Publishing Co. so that they could publish books and patterns that they co-design. Their first book, Rag Bags©, released in 2004, was a huge hit. It features patterns for 12 different tote bags all made using the rag technique. Their second book Rag-a-Muffins©, was released in 2005. It contains lots of projects to make for children such as rag quilts, fusible applique wall hangings and accessories. Their third book Celebrate Canada©, was released in 2016. It contains a wonderful collection of projects to make using Northcott’s new “Oh Canada” line of fabrics. They’ve designed over 50 patterns for Northcott, to showcase their new fabric lines, and a beautiful Block of the Month called “Tweets & Twinkles”.

We opened Quiltworks Studio in September 2018 and offered a creative and welcoming environment in which we hosted a variety of workshops in not just quilting, but a great variety of arts and crafts. We loved to encourage creativity, inspire learning, build confidence, and promote the artistic community that we live in but due to Covid-19 we had to close our storefront in August 2020.
