This 13 square tray is made to deceptively appear as Mother Nature's gift of the lovely birch tree. No trees are harmed and once you know the technique, there's no limit to what you might want to create. The faux birch bark is created with the use of a sewing machine, some threads, a bit of roving and even a touch of colored pencil. Mirrored tiles are readily available in home improvement and craft stores. The edges are done in a large blanket stitch with either raffia, strong sock yarn, or a combination of threads. You will need to use an awl to help sew through the thick layers of wool blend felt and interfacing.
