A pillow cover can be made in many ways. You can simply slap together a front and back and call it a day. That makes a wimpy cover. OR you can make a "quilt", or two or three for it. Just like quilting makes a quilt, a quilted cover looks so much nicer than one that isn't quilted, even if it's just one piece of fabric for the front and backs. It's a great quilt pattern for a new quilter - small, easy to handle and it doesn't take long to complete.
It's hard to say what you need for fabric. You can go to the quilt store and pick up something new. Is there a block you'd like to try before you commit yourself to a whole quilt? Make one for a pillow cover. If you have leftover fabric from another quilt pattern, you can use that. You can make it scrappy or planned. Do you have triangles cut from piecing binding strips together? They are the perfect size for a Friendship Star. Use panel pictures with the coordinating fabrics. The lining is the inside of the cover, so it's seldom seen. Eileen usually uses muslin or even an old sheet. Or use some of that ugly fabric you don't know why you ever brought home!
